Creek Road House Fire
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Battalion Chief Chris Plumley
January 15, 2014

Kennett, Avondale, Longwood, and Hockessin Fire Companies were dispatched at 04:13 for a house fire on Creek Road. Chief 24 arrived on scene first to find heavy fire through the roof. The assignment was quickly upgraded, several tankers were added to assist with water supply. All residents were found safe outside the building, confirming nobody else was inside. Engine 24-2 arrived on scene. Crews pulled a hand line to the front door and proceeded inside the building to attempt to stop the fire from spreading. Near zero visibility and parts of the roof falling inside forced the crew to immediately exit. All operations would continue via exterior. Ladder 25's ladder pipe was utilized to get an aerial angle on the fire and knock down the bulk of the fire to prevent spreading. Several more hand lines were utilized around the building to finally put the fire out.

Meanwhile, tankers from neighboring agencies looped around, filling up and dumping water into the port-a-tank to supply the suppression efforts. Water Supply was held at Creek Road and Hillendale Road, while the fill site was setup by Po-Mar-Lin on Twin Creek Drive.

After controlling the fire, officers examined carefully the interior. Officers found several parts of the floor collapsed, and deemed the house unsafe to enter further at this time. The house was continued to be soaked in order to ensure the fire was completely out and wouldn't reignite.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by PA State and Chester County Fire Marshals. Nobody was injured during this incident.

The Red Cross was notified to assist the residents with housing.

Belfor assisted with temporarily securing the house after the fire.

Thanks to Rocky Run Fire Company for standing by at Kennett's station to protect our community while we were busy.
