Early morning Diner fire

Early this morning, Kennett was dispatched to the 700 block of West Baltimore Pike for a building fire. Initial units arrived on scene to a single story diner with smoke showing from the roof and the eaves. Engine 24-1 crew forced entry into the structure with a hand line to find a small room and contents fire. Truck 24 with Engine 23 crews accessed the roof and began ventilating, coordinating with the interior crew. Substantial overhaul was completed as fire was found in various parts of the roof line. Nobody was hurt or injured during this incident. The investigation of the incident was handled by Chester County Fire Marshals.

Many thanks to Avondale, Longwood, Po-Mar-Lin, Union, and Rocky run fire departments for responding to help us on this incident.
Folks often ask "Why are there so many firefighters and fire companies dispatched?" The dispatch for a small single story building is the same for a house. This helps with continuity of services provided to the community. As the incident allows, units are released into service back to their coverage district. While it may seem excessive at times, its sorely needed for the safety of the occupants and firefighters on scene.
