Washington Street Electrical Fire

On January 28th, 2010 at 1706 hours the Kennett Fire Company along with Avondale Fire Company (Station 23) and Longwood Fire Company (Station 25) were dispatched to the 200 block of South Washington Street in Kennett Square Borough for the report of "Smoke in the Building". Shorty after dispatch Deputy 24 responded and arrived on scene to find a laundromat with a smoke condition in the attic of the building. Deputy 24 assumed Washington Street Command. The crew from Engine 24-1 arrived on scene and threw a ladder to C side of the building to check the roof. While the crew from Engine 23-2 threw a ladder to the A side of the laundromat. The extent of the fire remained in a craw space within the attic, and was extinguished. Crews overhauled the attic. pulling out burnt insulation. Crews were in service for less than an hour.
