On the weekend of February 12th and 13th, The Kennett Fire Company No. 1 hosted an Ice Rescue and Emergency Response training course. The course was instructed by our long time instructors and friends at Whitecap Water Rescue Training, Todd Stahl, Greg Miller, Alex Myers, and Scott Davis. At the completion of the course, Kennett Fire Company Water Rescue team members are certified under the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and met NFPA 1670 Technician Level Standards. Team Members learned and obtained critical techniques to remove victims from the ice, involving: shore, boat and direct contact rescue techniques. Team members also reviewed several self-rescue techniques. The Kennett Water Rescue Team now has 16 members who have completed every training module under the Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission Water Rescue. Previous courses included: Water Rescue and Emergency Response, Advanced Line Systems Rescue, and Emergency Boat Operations and Rescue. The Kennett Fire Company No. 1 is a critical component in the Chester County Rescue Task Force, specializing in water rescue, and look forward to serving the community and neighboring communities in Chester County. Other Departments that participated were The Downingtown Fire Department (Stations 45 & 46), and Media Fire Company (Delco Station 23).
