Vehicle Rescue Training Continues at Kennett

Tonight's weekly training took our Vehicle Rescue skills to the next level. As we approach the middle of our training block, hydraulic and power tools were utilized for extrication purposes. Vehicles are rarely found in a "normal" shape after an accident. When an operator of the vehicle is unable to self extricate, firefighters are forced to use other means to remove parts of the car from their path. Tonight, Kennett reviewed vehicle anatomy, techniques to remove doors, the roof, and windows, as well as a procedure known as a Dash Roll.

~Fun Fact~
You know them as our "Jaws of Life." Hydraulic tools are used for a variety of tasks including cutting and spreading parts of the vehicle. We carry what we call "O" cutters, spreaders, a combi (combination) tool, and rams on our engines.

Special thank you to Blittersdorf Towing and Mercer Restoration for your continued dedication to Kennett Fire Company by donation of vehicles for our training program.
