At 16:50 Friday evening, Kennett Fire Company was dispatched with Avondale and Longwood companies to the 100 block of E State Street for smoke in a building. Engine 24-1 arrived on scene, their crew entered via the front door, accompanied by facility maintenance staff, and were directed to the 5th floor. The maintenance staff reported to officers that a power surge hit the facility, which caused a problem with the HVAC unit, burning up a small couple on the unit releasing a minor amount of smoke, which then tripped the alarm. Engine 24-1's crew proceeded to the area to confirm the report. Ladder 25's crew made access to the roof to check the HVAC units themselves which were in normal working condition. Engine 23-2's crew assisted 24's crew with inspecting the 5th floor. There were no further issues on this incident. All units returned available.
