Early this afternoon about 2 p.m. Local fire companies were dispatched to the area of Newark Road and Spencer road for hay bales on fire. First on scene officers arrived to find about 5,000 hay bales on fire with exposures to a house and a barn. The assignment was quickly upgraded to add several other fire companies especially for tankers in order to deliver large amounts of water to the scene. Defensive measures were immediately taken to protect the house and the barn from the blaze. Several hose lines and ladder pipe operations were utilized. While the event lasted well into Sunday morning, both standing structures sustained minimal damage if any. A job well done by all involved from fire and emergency services, to neighbors and community members who reported to the scene to assist where they could with specialized machinery for this event. No body was hurt during this incident. The cause is still under investigation by Chester County Fire Marshals.
