Easter afternoon, Station 24 was dispatched for several units to assist Avondale Fire Company with a large, and growing brush fire. Brush, ATV, and Tanker 24 responded to the New Garden Airport to stop the spread of the fire through the woods. Units arrived on scene pulling several brush hose lines to extinguish the fire, which had already spread through the woods and into the grass. With assistance from Po-Mar-Lin and Longwood units, this side of the woods fire was saturated while Avondale's units continued fire suppression efforts at the bottom of the hill.

High winds and dry fuels dramatically increase the speed in which brush fires may spread. If you are ever unsure about burning in your municipality at any time, contact your local fire company for advise and assistance.
