House Fire on Kaolin Road

By Fire Chief Chris Plumley
January 4, 2016

Kennett Fire Company was dispatched along with neighboring agencies just before midnight to Kaolin Road for a house fire. While enroute, the glow from the fire and a large header could be seen from about 1 mile out. The incident was upgraded, added a second alarm, and added a tanker task force. Ambulance 24 arrived on scene with Chief 24 confirming fire through the roof, all occupants were safely evacuated, and established command.

Engine 24-1 arrived first on scene and took position on the A/B side. Their orders were to pull two hand lines (one to A side, one to C side), and begin fire suppression. Engine 25-1 approached next and was ordered to head toward the A/D side and follow the same orders as 24-1. Engine 25-2 arrived next and responded to an on sight pond to begin drafting operations, connecting to Engine 24-1. Room was left in the drive way for the responding Aerial from Hockessin for elevated master stream operations if needed. Tankers responded from various fire companies and began supplying the fire ground.
Crews remained on scene for fire suppression and salvage operations well into the cold morning.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Chester County Fire Marshal's Office. Crews were released about 04:30 in the morning.

Many thanks to all the fire companies that responded to assist us on this incident, as well as those who stood by to protect our community while we were busy.
