At 9:52am on Monday, November 15th, Kennett Fire Company and Longwood Fire Company were dispatched to the 700 block of West Cypress Street in Kennett Township for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.

Kennett Square Police Officer, Mark Todd, arrived to find a vehicle rapidly sinking in the Red Clay Creek. Officer Todd, along with fire personnel and members of the Kennett Township Public Works Department, entered the water and pulled the driver to safety. The driver was evaluated by EMS personnel at the scene and transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Fire crews placed hazardous materials booms downstream to limit the spread of any fluids that may have leaked into the creek.

Tow operators from Blittersdorf's Towing removed the vehicle from the creek.

Fire Police from Kennett Fire Company, Longwood Fire Company, and Avondale Fire Company provided traffic control around the scene.

Crews cleared the scene around 11:15am.

The accident is being investigated by the Kennett Township Police Department.
