At 3:24pm on Wednesday, March 16th, Kennett Fire Company and Longwood Fire Company were dispatched to the 1000 block of E. Baltimore Pike in Kennett Township for a vehicle fire. Kennett's Engine 24 and Longwood's Engine 25-2 and Tanker 25-1 responded. Crews arrived to find flames coming from the engine compartment of a car parked in a parking lot. Firefighters pumped water from Engine 25-2 to extinguish the fire. Crews cleared the scene within twenty minutes.

Shortly after returning to the station from the vehicle fire, Kennett Fire Company, Longwood Fire Company, and Hockessin Fire Company were dispatched to the 600 block of Chandler Mill Road in Kennett Township for a brush fire. The caller reported that a controlled burn had gone out of control and that a 50'x50' section of a grass field was on fire. Avondale Fire Company was covering Hockessin Fire Company's area at the time of the dispatch, so Avondale responded to the call.

Crews arrived in the area to find a section of a field burning. Fire apparatus drove about 200 yards off the roadway and through the field to get to the fire while other units parked on W. Belmont Drive on the Hockessin side of the incident and entered the scene on foot with handlines. Kennett's ATV24 was put into service to help fight the fire. Approximately 5,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the fire. One nearby resident was checked by EMS personnel for smoke inhalation. The last units cleared the scene shortly before 7:00pm.

After returning from the brush fire, Kennett's and Longwood's duty crews enjoyed dinner together at Station 24.
