Just before 3:30am on Friday, August 12th, Kennett Fire Company and Longwood Fire Company were dispatched for an appliance fire in the 500 block of East South Street in Kennett Square Borough. Reports indicated that an oven was on fire and that all occupants of the residence were evacuated.

Crews arrived to find light smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters pulled a 1¾-inch handline and quickly extinguished the fire which was contained to the oven. The appliance was removed from the residence and the Chester County Fire Marshal was called to the scene.

Fire police from both fire companies closed East South Street between South Walnut Street and Hornblende Avenue for the duration of the incident.

Units cleared the scene at 5:30am.
