TAC-24 Placed into Service

By President Tony Talamonti
February 1, 2005

In February 2005, Kennett Fire Company put TAC-24 into service. The original primary function for this unit was to be a hose tender carrying 3,000 feet of 5" hose and 1,000 feet of 3" hose. This was one of the first new UNIMOG chassis sold in the United States.

Relying on Rosenbauer's experience with these trucks around the world we asked their General Safety Division Design Chief Mike Lemuiex to "see what he could do" with the 154" WB chassis. After months of deliberation a final plan was accepted and the truck built.

When the truck arrived at East Penn Fire and Emergency, the selling dealer, they were amazed at the amount of space incorporated on such a small vehicle. As they began mounting equipment it became obvious that the truck would be more than just a hose tender.

Eventually Chief Melton contacted the Chester County Numbering Committee and after inspecting the unit it was classified as TAC-24.
