By President Tony Talamonti
March 23, 2005

The Kennett Fire Company Board of Fire Control unanimously approved the appointment of Fire Chief Steve Melton to a second term beginning April 1, 2005. The seven member board is chaired by Past Chief Jerry "Reds" Kiser, other members serving are Paul Baccino, Tony D'Ottavio and Rick Ruoss. The Borough of Kennett Square is represented by Council Members Jeffrey Darman and Steve Kelly and the Kennett Township Supervisors are represented by Supervisor Tom Nale. Kennett Square Mayor, Leon Spencer and Kennett Fire Co. President, Tony Talamonti serve as non-voting ex-officio members of the board.
Chief Melton, more affectionately known off the fireground as "Monk" joined the Fire Company in 1985 as a Junior Firefighter and worked his way up through the ranks. He was heavily influenced by his Grandfather and long-time member J. Hammond "Hammie" Griffith. Chief Melton also serves as Deputy Chief at the Winterthur Museum where he is employed in the maintenance department. Board Chairman Kiser promised Chief Melton the full co-operation of the board during his next term.

Terry Clark, a long time fixture in Southern Chester County EMS, was appointed Ambulance Captain effective March 14, 2005. Terry began his volunteer career with West Grove Fire Company in 1992 and became an EMT in 1993. He has served actively with many of the Southern Chester County companies and worked for various professional ambulance services in the region. Terry also has one of those "neat jobs" and has spent the past eight years working for the Wilmington Blue Rocks Baseball Club (Single A farm team of the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox) Terry will be responsible for bringing Kennett Fire Company's ambulance service back to full operational capability, a challenge he readily accepts. The Fire Company's Board looks forward to working with Terry and is impressed with his positive, friendly, go get 'em attitude. Chief Melton will add Terry to his Board of Engineers to take advantage of Terry's extensive fire fighting background. Terry can be reached at 610-444-4810
